Install: Double
click on the downloaded file hjab07a.zip and unzip it to a temporary
directory. Run setup.exe and follow the instructions given. Start
Hotjabber by clicking "Start -> Program -> Hotjabber ->Hotjabber".

Configuration
- create new account:
3.1
The first time you start Hotjabber, you will be asked to create a new
account. If you don't have an account, answer yes.
3.2 Type the name you want - example "greg@hotjabber.com".
3.3 Choose a secret password. Don't forget it!
3.4 Press OK.
3.5 If the server liked your name, congratulations! You now have a
jabber account at hotjabber.com. You are now connected. If the server
did not grant your new account, the name was already taken. Go back to
3.2 and try a different name.
You can always create a new account by selecting "Help -> New
account".
Configuration - from an existing account:
3.6 The first time you start Hotjabber, you will be asked to create
a new account. Since you have one already, answer no.
3.7 The connect window will be shown. There are two lines here.
3.8 At Username, type your JID. This could be user@domain or user@domain/resource.
Default resource is "." Example : "greg@hotjabber.com".
3.9 Type in your password.
3.10 Press connect. You should now be connected and receive your
contacts list (if you have one).
3.11 Proxy: if you have to connect through a proxy, press "Settings"
and then "Connection" and fill in the information. If you don't
know what a proxy is, skip this...

Connect/Disconnect:
Press the
Connect button (on/off) to connect Hotjabber to the HotJabber.com
server. The lamp then turns red. Press it again to disconnect and the
lamp then turns dark. There is a status bar at the bottom of the window
that tells the current status.

The
contacts list:
The contacts list is located on the left side of the screen. This is your
adress book for contacts but also for subscribed groupchats (see below)
and for transports (see below). Each contact will belong to a group (example
"Friends"). To the left of the nickname for each contact, a
small symbol indicates current status of the contact:
(green circle) - user is online
(green circle, smile) - user is free for chat
(semi-green circle) - user is temporarily away (lunch)
(semi-semi-green circle) - user is away for a longer period of time (gone
home)
(green circle, exclamation mark) - do not disturb
(white circle) - user is offline
(gray, blurred circle) - unknown status. New users will look like this
until they approve of your subscription request.
(T in a circle) - indicates transport. Blue means online, gray means offline.
(G in a circle) - indicates subscribed groupchat. Doubleclick to participate.

Add
a contact:
Right-click on the left window which is the contacts list window. Select
"New contact".
5.1 At "User", enter the ID of the contact (i.e. sara@hotjabber.com).
5.2 Associate a "Nickname" with the contact. This will be
displayed in the contacts list.
5.3 Press "OK" button. Now the user is added to the Roster.
(Hotjabber automatically sends subscription request to new contacts.

Delete
a contact:
Right-click on the user you want to delete in the contacts list. Select
"Delete".

|
Send
a message:
Either double click on a user in your contacts list - a "New message"
window will appear - or press the New message button to get a "New
message" window and fill in the address to the user.

|
Reply:
If someone has sent you a message, you can reply by pressing the reply
button. A message must be selected in the inbox folder.
|
|
|
Chat
with someone:
Right-click on the person you want to chat with (in your contacts list).
Select "Chat". You can only chat with people who are online
and available.
